If you’re new to digital magazine production and not quite sure how to get started, making a some informed decisions upfront can help get you on your way. Do you have the right information in hand to start your new app?
Here are five questions to help you clarify your direction:
1) What type of digital magazine do you want to create? Will it be a single release, such as an annual, or will it have recurring issues?
2) Will you charge for your app, for your issues, or both? This is an important question, since it will affect your revenue model and how you build your apps.
3) In which marketplace would you like to distribute your app? Will you choose more than one? This will determine the number of developer relationships you’ll need to maintain and the logistics involved.
4) If you’ll have multiple issues within your digital publication, will you sell them as single issues, and/or do you plan to offer subscriptions? Have you considered how you’ll organize your subscription model?
5) Have you thought about how you want to organize your app-review process? Will you share content for review, or will you preview it directly on a device? Thinking this through in advance can significantly streamline your production process.
