This week we’re discussing the release of the iPad 3, the Digital Ellies awards, the nextPub e-reader standard, the XTech 2012 conference, MediaWeek’s latest magazine sector analysis, and The Washington Post‘s new app.
- The iPad 3 is coming! The much-anticipated device, which is expected deliver higher resolution and faster performance, is likely to be announced on Monday, March 7, at an Apple event in San Francisco.
- We were pleased to see several of our key clients on the list of finalists for the National Magazine Awards for Digital Media, known as the Digital Ellies, which will be presented at the MPA Digital: Swipe conference in New York City on March 20.
- NextPub, the newly evolving standard for managing e-reader content, is in it’s first round of review and comments. For all publishers who have a vested interest in driving standards for how their content is delivered, this is an important technology to follow.
- If you’ve been trying to get your content strategy clear around XML, don’t miss IDEAlliance XTech 2012 on March 15 and 16. The conference can be attended either virtually or in person in Chicago.
- MediaWeek’s magazine sector analysis highlights the long-awaited confirmation that ABC (the Audit Bureau of Circulations) will now allow publishers to combine print and digital sales into their figures. According to MediaWeek, “The launch of Apple’s Newsstand platform in October last year, along with Yahoo’s Livestand app for iPad in November, is redefining how users engage with magazine brands, and the ABC has had to react.”
- Our friends at The Washington Post are launching a new iPad app, WP Politics, as political publishing ramps up among several of our clients in preparation for the upcoming presidential nominating conventions. Poynter discusses the Post‘s latest paid content strategy on its website.
