Newsweek and The Daily Beast Editor in Chief Tina Brown has announced the promotions of Justine Rosenthal and Deidre Depke.
Rosenthal will move up from Executive Editor of Newsweek to Editorial Director of The Newsweek Daily Beast Co. According to a memo from Brown, “Justine will be responsible for special issues of Newsweek Global, developing new editorial content streams, and next generation editorial-business initiatives.” Rosenthal was previously Editor of The National Interest and has held the positions of Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University, Research Fellow at the Brookings Institution, and Director of the Executive Office at the Council on Foreign Relations.
Depke is now Editor of the The Daily Beast, where she had been serving as Executive Editor since February. She most recently was General Manager at TheWeek.com and prior to that was Editor of Newsweek.com.
Brown announced in October that Newsweek’s print edition will cease publication at the end of 2012 and that the magazine will transition to a digital-only format as Newsweek Global. Layoffs began this week as a result of the move.
