Ebooks’ Rise, A Tablet Analytics Initiative, Potential USPS Rate Hikes, April’s Pinterest News Roundup, 7 Responsive Design Tips, DPS Tip: Managing Articles in the Folio Builder Panel, Women in Media Moves
Welcome to TFP’s weekly roundup of interesting and noteworthy stories from the publishing world. This week, we’re discussing ebooks’ growth in 2012, the MPA’s tablet analytics pilot, responsive design workflow tips, and more.
- According the latest StatShot report from the Association of American Publishers, ebooks accounted for 23% of U.S. book publishers’ sales in 2012. Meanwhile, adult hardcover book revenues declined almost 7%.
- Adweek says that the MPA has convinced five analytics companies “to take previously incomparable tablet reader data and present it in apples-to-apples fashion.” A pilot involving several publishers is expected to begin in October and could lead to industry standards for reporting readership stats to advertisers.
- Though the U.S. Postal Service’s announcement that has withdrawn its plan to end Saturday mail delivery might seem like good news for magazine publishers, Dead Tree Edition warns that the USPS is going to need to cover its financial losses somehow—most likely through postal rate increases.
