Welcome to TFP’s weekly roundup of interesting and noteworthy stories from the publishing world. This week, we’re discussing The Atlantic‘s new digital weekly, Bauer’s launch of three new print magazines, Adobe’s release of InDesign CC, and more.
- The Atlantic has introduced a weekly edition for the iPad that’s aimed at generating additional digital revenue. The Atlantic Weekly will include content curated from online properties, including Atlantic.com, The Atlantic Cities, and The Atlantic Wire, and stories from the magazine’s print archives. The cost is $1.99 per issue, $2.99 a month, or $19.99 for an annual subscription.
- Meanwhile, Bauer Media has announced that it is launching three new magazines—in print format: Closer, Girl’s World, and Celebrate with Woman’s World. And the ad-free monthly print magazine Not Safe For Work just raised $250,000 in seed funding from Base Ventures.
- If you haven’t had time to follow the Justice Department’s e-book price-fixing case against Apple, you can read Macworld.com’s overview to catch up on the trial and yesterday’s closing arguments. One revelation during the proceedings was that Apple has a 20% share of the e-book market—double earlier estimates.
- Several changes to the mastheads of some leading publications have been announced over the past week. See TFP’s Women in Media blog for a roundup of some of the latest news highlighting women’s roles in the evolving media landscape, including hiring moves at O, AMI, Glamour, Lucky, and Epicurious.
- Every month in our Pinterest Roundup, we collect interesting and noteworthy news about the visual bookmarking site. June’s edition includes articles about how magazine publishers are taking advantage of Pinterest, Pinterest’s newest features, using the pinboard as a marketing tool, and more.
- The Paste Without Formatting command is a simple but effective tool for users who do a lot of copying and pasting. Visit TFP’s InDesign Tips blog to learn how to take advantage of this time-saving option.
- Adobe’s release of InDesign CC this week means there are new features to learn about and take advantage of. To help you do just that, read our overview of some of the changes introduced in this new version, and check out our latest handbook, What’s New in InDesign CC, available now.
