Welcome to TFP’s weekly roundup of interesting and noteworthy stories from the publishing world. This week, we’re discussing publishers’ latest digital product announcements, digital readership trends, Adobe’s DPS v27 update, and more.
- Newly released MPA data reveals an overall decline of 4.9% in consumer magazine ad pages for the first half of this year compared with the first six months of 2012. News magazines have been particularly hard-hit, with The Economist experiencing a 24% drop in ads.
- Such news hasn’t discouraged Meredith from making plans to launch a print magazine version of its Allrecipes.com site this fall.
- Meanwhile, this week Atlantic Media launched its Defense One web publication, The Daily Beast announced a Beast Weekend edition starting this fall, and The New York Times announced plans for an “immersive digital magazine” and “a new dining news product.”
- The W3C has rejected the digital advertisers’ proposed changes to Do Not Track rules, and it’s doubtful that an agreement will be reached by an end-of-month deadline. Meanwhile, Digiday reported that major publishers use as many as 351 trackers to monitor each site visitor.
- In the second of a three-part series on the TFP blog, we take a look at recent research on digital readership, the top digital magazine performers, and current trends to give you a concise overview of the state of the digital magazine market.
- If you didn’t get a chance to attend Adobe’s Digital Publishing Suite Release 27 webinar earlier this week, we’ve got you covered. Visit the TFP blog for a detailed recap of the new features included in the latest DPS update, and to find out what Adobe has in store for Release 28.
- Using InDesign’s keyboard shortcuts can add up to big time savings. This week on TFP’s InDesign Tips blog, we explain how to use shortcuts to quickly view font submenus.
