Welcome to TFP’s weekly roundup of interesting and noteworthy stories from the publishing world. This week, we’re discussing Apple’s developer site hack, iPad sales, news from Flipboard, the magazine newsstand channel, and more.
- HOT: Apple is still “completely overhauling” its developer website following news that it was hacked more than a week ago. The vendor has launched a system status page to keep developers updated on the situation. So far, only two of the site’s 15 components are operational.
- In its Q3 earnings report, Apple revealed that iPad sales were down 25% compared with the previous quarter and 14% from the same quarter last year.
- Apple could see a sales boost this fall, though, given that one-third of consumers plan to buy a new tablet for back-to-school season, according to a study by shopping website BuyVia. Of those, 56% said they plan to purchase an iPad or iPad Mini.
- Flipboard announced that users’ custom magazines are now accessible via the web, not just through its mobile app. Meanwhile, a GigaOM article considered whether Flipboard is a friend or foe of publishers.
