The Apple Push Notification Service allows app developers and publishers to send notifications to their iOS apps, even if the customer is not currently using the app. Push notifications are used to send and display a message, play a sound, and add a number “badge” on an app icon to indicate available issues. An Adobe Digital Publishing Suite app can contain push notifications that let subscribers know that a new issue is available, and it can also initiate a background download of a new issue if the app is in the iOS Newsstand (and push notifications have been enabled in the iOS app setup).
Once a user opts in to receive push notifications, the DPS app is registered to receive them. Notifications can be sent from Adobe’s DPS Push Provider Server, your own server, or a third-party push provider to Apple’s Push Notification Service server, which then forwards the notification to the targeted app on registered devices.
With the Adobe DPS v28 release, push notifications can be configured directly from the Digital Publishing Suite Dashboard.
Send a Text Alert Notification
- Select Notifications from the Publishing Tools list.
- Select either Developer or Distribution from the Application Type drop-down menu.
- Type the notification text in the Text Message field.
- Click Notify.
