Welcome to TFP’s weekly roundup of media news! We’ve got stories on Facebook’s 10th anniversary, magazine circulation for the second half of 2013, this month’s Media Metrics roundup, and more.
-
The Alliance for Audited Media released preliminary figures for its Snapshot report for the second half of 2013. Although 37% of the titles saw total circulation grow, and digital magazine circ was up 37%, newsstand sales dropped 11.1%, and paid subscriptions were down 1.2%.
- Facebook marked its 10th anniversary on Tuesday by creating personalized video recaps for users based on their activity histories. Just visit http://www.facebook.com/lookback when you’re logged in to your account to view yours, if you haven’t already. Time called it “cheesy,” but I liked mine!
- Journalism.co.uk marked the social media milestone by providing 10 tips and tools to help journalists use Facebook to reach readers, find sources, and better connect with their audiences.
- Time Inc. announced a reorganization that will consolidate three operating units—sports and news, lifestyle, and entertainment—into one. Layoffs affecting 500 employees are expected as the magazine publisher prepares to be spun off from parent Time Warner in the second quarter.
- See TFP’s Media Metrics blog for this month’s collection of excerpts from some of the key stories covering issues affecting the publishing and media industries. This month’s selections cover a range of topics, including ebooks, advertising, mobile apps, push messaging, phablets, and more.
- On TFP’s DPS Tips blog, learn how to add multiple articles to a folio at the same time using the Import function in the Folio Builder.
- Appropriately enough, our Infographic Pick of the Week looks at key Facebook stats and milestones as the company celebrates its 10th anniversary.
