Welcome to TFP’s weekly roundup of news and tips for media industry pros! This week we’re sharing stories about the web’s 25th birthday, what affects site visitor engagement, media industry metrics, and more.
- As the World Wide Web celebrated its 25th anniversary this week, Pew marked the occasion with a timeline of notable web events, and Tim Berners-Lee, the web’s inventor, launched the Web We Want campaign, with the aim of establishing an “Internet Users’ Bill of Rights” that supports an “open, neutral Internet.”
- A new study by the Pew Research Center of 26 news sites found that site visitors who come directly via bookmarks or by typing a URL into their browsers spend about triple the amount of time on a site compared with those who arrive via Facebook or a search engine, plus they view about five times as many pages each month.
- Newsweek made a big splash with its return to print last Friday by featuring an attention-grabbing cover story that purported to unmask the creator of Bitcoin. However, not everyone is convinced that the reporter ID’d the right man, and media analysts are questioning whether the gambit for attention was credible journalism.
- Adobe said that its Digital Publishing Suite v30 update will be made available at around 2 p.m. Eastern on March 15. Installation instructions for the DPS tools can be found on the Adobe website. You can also register for Monday’s DPS v30 overview webinar on Adobe.com.
- Adobe also announced changes to its Digital Publishing Suite licensing plans this week that will affect new users of the Professional Edition as well as current Pro customers who wish to renew. You can read about it on the TFP blog.

This month’s selections cover a range of topics, including web use, print vs. digital newspaper audiences, Barnes & Noble’s performance, and magazine circulation, so head on over and get caught up!
- Keeping track of how well interactive overlays in your Adobe Digital Publishing Suite app perform is crucial to learning which interactive features work best for your audience.
