Welcome to TFP’s roundup of news highlighting women’s roles in the evolving media landscape. We have several hiring announcements to share with you this week:
- Kim Sealy has been promoted from the role of Eastern Advertising Director of Integrated Sales at Bonnier’s Working Mother magazine to the newly created role of Publisher. She has been with the magazine for the past seven years and previously worked at Jet and Teen People.
- Connie Guglielmo is the new Editor in Chief of CNET News. She joins the consumer technology site from Forbes, where she was the Technology Team Editor. She was previously a technology reporter at Bloomberg News.
- Bonnie Kintzer will take on the role of President and CEO at The Reader’s Digest Association on April 7. She has been serving as the CEO at Women’s Marketing Inc., media strategy company, and was previously President of Kintzer, Bachar & Associates. Prior to that, she spent nine years in high-level roles at Reader’s Digest.
- Poppy MacDonald has been promoted to Publisher and Co-President of Atlantic Media’s National Journal, where she has been Chief Revenue Office since October 2012. She will also oversee the magazine’s events business. MacDonald has previously worked for Politico and Gallup.
- Amanda Cormier has been hired as Managing Editor of National Journal. She was previously a writer for online magazine BKLYNR.
- Laura Frerer-Schmidt is adding Vice President to her title at Women’s Health, where she has served as the magazine’s Publisher since 2011. Frerer-Schmidt was with Condé Nast for 12 years before coming to Rodale. She was named Publisher of the Year by Min last year.
- Krissy Tiglias is Domino‘s new Digital Director. She joins the publication from Real Simple, where she was Deputy Editor. She was previously the Home and Lifestyle Editor at Redbook.
- Alexandra Cavallo is on board at The Improper Bostonian as its new Deputy Managing Editor. She was previously the Entertainment Editor at Metro Boston and was an Editor and Reporter at The Boston Phoenix.
- Janine Gibson, Editor in Chief of The Guardian in the U.S., will head back to London this summer to serve as Deputy Editor of Guardian News & Media and Editor in Chief of the U.K.-based newspaper’s website, TheGuardian.com. Katharine Viner, who launched The Guardian Australia last year, will fill the EIC role for The Guardian US and is also a Deputy Editor of Guardian News & Media.
- Earlier this month, a year after the release of her book Lean In, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg launched the Ban Bossy campaign in partnership with the Girl Scouts. The project aims to encourage girls and women to reject the “bossy” label and embrace leadership roles. However, there has been some backlash, with critics contending that “bossiness” and “leadership” are not equivalent. What do you think of the campaign? Are you on board?
