- Pew’s 11th annual State of the News Media report was released this week, and it’s chock-full of information, including analysis and stats on social media, news videos, ad spending, and job growth. - The New York Times announced that starting April 2, for $8 a month, NYT Now will deliver curated news items (and some native ads) to iOS devices or browsers throughout the day. Times Premier, aimed at Times “enthusiasts,” will cost $45 a month and offer even more content than a regular New York Times digital subscription.
- The American Society of Magazine Editors has announced the nominees for the 2014 National Magazine Awards, known as the Ellies. Sixty-six publications are nominated in 24 categories, with The Atlantic, Bon Appétit, Esquire, Fast Company, and New York competing for Magazine of the Year. You can see the full list of finalists on the ASME website.
- An Adweek article on how changes to Facebook’s Newsfeed algorithm have hurt some publishers includes the contention that the site “made the modifications in order to get organizations to spend advertising dollars” to gain referral traffic. Meanwhile, an article from Digiday explains why brands should actually thank Facebook for charging them for advertising instead.
- In the latest installment in our series on the Essential Elements of an Effective Content Backbone, we’re sharing five strategies for maintaining content health to help keep your content workflows, structure, systems, and organization running smoothly.
