Welcome to This Week in Publishing, TFP’s weekly roundup of news and tips for media industry pros! This week we’re sharing stories about Jill Abramson’s departure from the Times, a European court’s “right to be forgotten” ruling, a source of inspiration for in-app interactivity, and more.
- Executive Editor Jill Abramson’s sudden ouster from The New York Times came as a shock to many this week. Publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. announced Wednesday that Abramson has been replaced by Managing Editor Dean Baquet due to “an issue with management in the newsroom.”
- The European Court of Justice has ruled that web users are entitled to have links to web pages containing information about them removed from search results to protect their privacy. Critics fear this will skew coverage of contentious issues and hamper freedom of speech.
- The FCC has voted to move forward with Chairman Tom Wheeler’s proposal for new net neutrality rules, under which broadband companies could be permitted to give preferential treatment to content providers who are willing to pay a premium for better-quality service delivery.
- In response to concerns that content aggregators are robbing publishers of site traffic and page views, legislation is being introduced in Spain that would require aggregators to financially compensate publishers for reproducing headlines and text snippets.

- Adobe has released a new, free iPad app, Adobe Voice, to enable users at any skill level to engage in digital storytelling. Users can narrate their own stories and select from a library of icons, images, and music to help illustrate and animate their content.
