Forbes’ Google+ Partnership, Redesigns at Lucky and Newsweek.com, Profitable Web Publishers, Adobe’s New Digital Publishing Awards, Women in Media Update, DPS Tip: The Folio Builder Panel
Welcome to TFP’s weekly roundup of interesting and noteworthy stories from the publishing world. This week, we’re discussing why Forbes has partnered with Google, Lucky‘s recent redesigns, which web publishers are making a profit, and more.
- It might surprise you to learn that Google+ is the No. 2 social network behind Facebook, with 26% of Internet users active on the site. But it helps explain why Forbes has partnered with Google to launch a Google+-powered content recommendation system for mobile users—as does the fact that mobile drives 30% of Forbes‘ web traffic.
- While struggling Lucky magazine is hoping a makeover of its print edition will help turn around its fortunes in 2013, the now digital-only Newsweek has unveiled a site redesign reminiscent of The New York Times’ “Snow Fall” multimedia feature series. Newsweek.com, now in beta, will be updated weekly.
- Which new-media businesses are actually making money publishing content on the web? Fortune takes a look at Gawker, The Huffington Post, and Vox Media, among others, and offers a profile of each.
- This week, Adobe announced a partnership with Adweek to launch the Digital Publishing Awards. Mobile apps or ads built with Adobe Digital Publishing Suite can be submitted for the awards through the Adweek Talent Gallery until July 22.
- Visit TFP’s Women in Media blog to read the latest roundup of announcements and articles that highlight women’s roles in the evolving media landscape, including stories about Yahoo’s Marissa Mayer, succeeding in digital ‘like a girl, and the Open Gender Tracker project.
- The Folio Builder panel is installed in InDesign with the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite tools. Visit TFP’s DPS Tips blog to learn more about how the Folio Builder is used to create and manage folio files.
